Mansion Music - A Virtual Tour thru American Class...

Program description

Take a virtual trip through time as you see the beautiful and historic Howey Mansion from the 1920s golden age in Florida and learn about how American classical music evolved from the marriage of European traditions with American traditions of folk, spiritual, jazz, and musical theater music.  Mansion Music in its virtual form engages students in a hands on and active form of music education. Students will learn about the fundamental elements of music, such as the concepts of beat, the chorus of a song, what purpose music and singing served for humans throughout history, while having the opportunity to sing, dance and clap along with the program.

The artists perform works by Stephen C. Foster, Aaron Copland, Antonin Dvorak, and Leonard Bernstein to give a representative overview of American classical music through the ages. Students will learn key works in American music history, as well as interesting facts about how the pieces were influenced by American cultural traditions. This program is appropriate for children from Grades 2-6.
