A Good Day for Pancake/DIGITAL (Social Emotional Learning – Bully Prevention for grades PreK-2nd) When a friend is bullied at school, Pancake the Pig doesn’t know how to help. As the bullying gets worse, Pancake and his friends soon learn the difference between tattling and reporting, the definition of bullying behavior, and how to stand together to stop the bullying. As part of its outstanding educational outreach program, The Winter Park Playhouse is proud to offer digital curriculum to supplement your in-person or digital classroom! Using songs from Schoolhouse Rock, Live! Jr, you will be provided short and engaging videos (via private video links) where music education will support classroom curriculum — teaching your students in a way that they will remember for many years to come. Songs include “A Noun is a Person, Place, or Thing,” “Unpack Your Adjectives,” “The Preamble,” “Interjections,” “Three is a Magic Number,” and “Conjunction Junction.” Each packet provides a virtual lesson, as well as an opportunity for your students to submit a recording of themselves showing their mastery of the song or dance. Lessons are also supported with accompanying worksheets.

As part of its outstanding educational outreach program, The Winter Park Playhouse is proud to offer digital curriculum to supplement your classroom! Students will learn a section of music and choreography from Motown standards, as well as supplemental lessons in the history of the Civil Rights Movement. The Winter Park Playhouse will provide engaging video lessons (via private video links) focused on Motown songs and choreography— teaching your students in a way that they will remember for many years to come. Each packet contains lesson plans supported with accompanying links for further discovery of Motown history.

Creative Drama: Discover Your Inner Character

In this course students will learn the techniques of Creative Drama in a safe and welcoming environment through the utilization of improv techniques. This workshop will focus on 5 main components of creative drama: Body Awareness, Space, Interaction & Quick Thinking, & Character Building. (Topics to choose from really best if built upon, but can be taken individually or combined into one 2 hour workshop ) Body Awareness These acting exercises focus on the student looking inward. The goal is to inspire concentration and allow students to check in with their bodies and find focused energy. Space These acting exercises help develop an understanding of surroundings. It also challenges students to explore characters and experience different points of view while engaging with ideas outside of themselves. Interaction These acting exercises focus on group interaction using both non-verbal communication, expression, & body language. Quick Thinking These acting exercises encourage students to think quickly, creatively and independently of their peers. Be prepared to be silly and have fun! Character Development These exercises challenge students to think outside themselves. How may your point of view change when thinking as someone else?

Fairy Tale Writing and Acting

In one week Laura Courter will help your students will create, as a class, their very own Fairy Tale! Using the organizational method CLAP: C (character), L (Location/Setting), A (Action), P (Plot). Writing is combined with Creative Dramatic techniques as the students act out characters from Fairy Tales, settings from Fairy Tales, and use acting to devise the action and plot of their stories. On the last day of the residency the students will perform their Fairy Tale as a class! This residency 1) teaches the use of describing words in written expression; 2) models the use of different kinds of sentences; 3) teaches students how to write a creative fairy tale; 4) encourages the personal interpretation of the expressive qualities of art; 5) teaches students how to draw concepts and ideas from other subjects; 6) uses culture and environment as inspiration for creating art; 7) uses real and imaginary subject matter in works of art Program Objectives: 1) Students will be presented with an easy-to-remember method for writing Fairy Tale 2) Students will be given a solid theoretical understanding of Fairy Tale writing: character (who), location (setting), action (what) and problem (why). 3) Students will be taught to create and visualize dramatic situations to use as ideas for writing.

Fringers of the Future Workshops Learn about the Fringe and work with industry professionals! This workshop offers students and teachers the opportunity to learn from Fringe artists and industry professionals. Choose from topics like Fringe 101, audition skills, improv, immersive, site specific, production, movement, tech, puppetry and more! We can tailor this class to your students’ needs. No need to book busses, we bring this workshop to your classroom or school theater! Once you select the class, we can talk about your students needs and create your class experience. Appropriate for grades 9-12; Maximum, 25 students per workshop. Workshop length is 90 minutes max but can be tailored to classroom needs.

Fundamentals of Acting

You will learn how to expand your imagination to inhabit characters and play with their fellow actors and the audience. Introduce students to opera on their own terms! Opera Orlando provides in-school presentations of their main stage productions to students in the classroom setting. Teaching Artists tell the stories and sing the music of the season’s main stage productions in paired-down versions in the classroom. Students are able to ask questions about careers in the arts and opera, and when possible, students who participate in the Opera School programming are invited to attend live dress rehearsals of Opera Orlando’s productions in the Dr. Phillips Center.

The Central Florida Ballet’s Studio Company travels to your local school to provide a narrated, 45 minute performance with a Q&A Session. Our Spring 2022 presentation will be CFB’s original production “9/11 – An American Moment”. Performed by CFB’s Studio Company dancers, the performance captures the poignancy of tested and proven American courage, resolve and pride in response to the World Trade Center attack. Central Florida Ballet chose to approach this complex subject motivated by two strong reasons: first to educate; and second to pay tribute to the thousands of victims. The performance is emotionally stirring. Some scenes contain live recordings of the events that unfolded that fateful morning. The end, however, is both patriotic and uplifting. Our national anthem is played and the audience rises and sings in unison with the performers. The U.S. House of Representatives recognized the Central Florida Ballet for creating this original production in 2008 as “the only company in the nation to have choreographed a ballet based on this fateful day in American history”.

The Central Florida Ballet’s Studio Company travels to your local school to provide a 45 minute performance with a Q&A Session. Our Spring 2023 presentation will be “Alice in Wonderland”. At a garden party on a sunny afternoon, Alice is surprised to see her parents’ friend Lewis Carroll transform into a white rabbit. When she follows him down a rabbit hole events become curiouser and curiouser… As Alice journeys through Wonderland, she encounters countless strange creatures. She’s swept off her feet by the charming Knave of Hearts, who’s on the run for stealing the tarts. Confusion piles upon confusion. Then Alice wakes with a start. Was it all a daydream? The “Alice in Wonderland” presentation offers memorable arts education and a lasting impact. The performance provides students an up-close opportunity to see a dance performance among eye-catching costumes, choreography, and emotions of the dancers. Accompanying lesson plans are provided for the teachers to better prepare the students for the culminating performance and aid in students achieving greater overall understanding and appreciation for the art form.

The Central Florida Ballet’s Studio Company travels to your local school to provide a narrated, 45 minute performance with a Q&A Session. Our Fall 2022 presentation will be the coveted holiday performance “The Nutcracker”. The story is based on a fairytale in which the Nutcracker doll comes to life as an enchanted prince who saves the pretty young maiden Maria, from distress. Prince “Nikita” then takes her through a magical journey to his kingdom “The Land of Sweets” where they are greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier. The Prince tells them about their daring battle with the army of mice and she rewards them with a celebration of dances from all around the world.

In-School Program: Beowulf: A Tale of Courage and Honor (Grades 3–8)

From the first moment to the last, students are immediately drawn into the action on stage as they join minstrels, monsters and heroic characters in mischief and comic hijinks as they fight and claw their way through fear, good, and evil in this Renaissance rendition of the epic tale. Music, drama, laughter and participation make the story, its language, and deep meanings far less formidable than the man-munching Grendel, wily mother, and fire-breathing dragons Beowulf slays. Teachers love the state standards and core curriculum benchmarks in language arts, world history, literature, music, and dramatic arts.

In-School Program: Performances (MOVE - Movement Opportunities for a Visionary Education)

Performance offerings include “Fairy Frolic” in which students meet magical fairies, “Color Dance” in which dancers go on a color mixing journey and “STRETCH,” in which children follow animals and dancers on a stretching adventure. All performances begin with a lecture demonstration of various dance styles, so that students can compare and contrast to understand modern dance more clearly. Students are invited to engage in basic movements from their seats. A full performance based on a story follows the lecture demonstration portion of the program and a question and answer period wraps up the program. Site-specific performances geared to the school environment (playgrounds, classrooms, gardens, unique spaces) are also available upon request. Two grade levels per performance. “Voci is amazing! In-School Program: The Pied Piper and other Fantastic Tales (Grades K–2)

Magic happens in the hearts and minds of teachers and students when learning is joyful, attention rapt and everyone is eager for more. Florida-based storyteller and flutist Donna Wissinger opens her magical bag of instruments to mesmerize and enthrall young students. Listen as Donna tells the stories of, and plays tunes from, The Pied Piper, Pocahontas, Pan and Syrinx, and The Lone Ranger. Children will learn about different styles of flutes, the type of sounds they create, and how music can enhance the joys of storytelling.

Kids Fringe on the Go!

Kids Fringe on the Go! Kids Fringe is the kid-friendly part of the Orlando Fringe festival that shares performances, workshops, meet and greets, and interactive art experiences with the community. Even though the festival is in May, you can bring the fun of Kids Fringe to your classroom. Learn about Kids Fringe and make art with us! Our Fringe teaching artists will bring hands on theater games, movement, storytelling, crafts and more to your classroom. We offer several different workshop options and can tailor our programs to the interest and abilities of your students. This program is a great fit for theater classes and regular classrooms. We bring this workshop directly to you! Appropriate for grades K-5. Class length is up to 45 minutes depending on class period length, max number of students per class is 25. Space requirements: An indoor space that would allow for movement such as a classroom with desks pushed back, a stage in an auditorium, a stage in a cafetorium, a drama or music classroom.

Fielding calls from bystanders in distress, audiences transform into The Upstander League’s latest recruits, practicing the tactics to go from bystanders to Upstanders. Are you ready to laugh, learn, and empower the Upstander within? The Upstander League program helps schools meet bully prevention mandates by defining bullying and its different types: physical, verbal, social and cyber. Audiences learn to apply six different bully prevention tactics, appropriate to these types of bullying.
